Disney's Dumbo review

Dumbo, compared to the three previous Disney films, might be less of a landmark but that doesn't make it less enjoyable.  It's a colorful and fun, sometimes somber and heartwrenching, and almost always charming.        Dumbo is the ultimate underdog as he is bullied by the other elephants, the circus performers, and circus guests and all because he has big ears.        Fortunately for Dumbo he is befriended by one Timothy Mouse, who often steals the show with his kindness and colorful personality.         The humiliation and suffering Dumbo endures over the course of this very short film makes his literal rise to the heavens all the more gratifying.       However, Dumbo is not perfect.  There are elements, specifically regarding the crows towards the film's climax, that have not aged well and might be potentially offensive to many viewers as a racist and offensive portrayal of A...

Scooby Doo Where are You Season 1 Episode 1 What a Night for a Knight

What a Night for a Knight is the first episode in all of Scooby Doo and debutted in 1969 as the first show in a series devised by Hanna Barbera, a cartoon company named for creating Flintstones, Jetsons, and Huckleberry Hound, among other cartoon shows.        The Scooby-Doo Where Are You series was designed to be a slightly spooky comedy and mystery series wherein a group of teens, Fred, Velma, Daphne, and Shaggy,  aided by their talking dog Scooby-Doo, solve mysteries where a bad guy disguises themselves as some monster or spook usually to scare people away from finding some treasure.        What a Night for a Knight opens with a very charming and fun opening song accompanied by scenes from the show's episodes. It's in my opinion one of the more memorable theme songs for a cartoon and really captures the charm of the show and of its titular character, Scooby.        The animation is very impressive,...

Disney's Fantasia review

Disney's Fantasia is a masterpiece of film, animation, and music that blends colors and sound into a breathtaking symphony yet it is not for everyone's tastes as I think many children as well as adults who are not fans of classic music will find it a boring and tedious affair.        Fantasia is suitable for most ages however, it should be noted there are frightening elements especially in the stunning but rather macabre Bald Mountain segment that is centered around a terrifying demon called Chernabog. Besides this there are examples of tasteful nudity, for the most part without any explicit details however there are harpies in the Bald Mountain segment that have nipples.        Overall Fantasia is Disney's third masterpiece in a row in my opinion, but it isn't for everyone's taste. I think most people who appreciate classical music and high quality animation will love this film. I would give it a score of 9.5 out of 10.

Disney's Pinnochio Review

Disney's Pinnochio is a breathtaking animated masterpiece and one of the finest films ever made, animated or otherwise in my opinion. The artwork involved in the animation is beyond beautiful and an example of the highlights are the beautiful, fun, and whimsical array of clocks in Geppeto's workshop. The music is entertaining and varied with slower and tender melodies as well as fun and upbeat ones. The movie is filled with wonder and whimsy, humor, and some scary moments and adventure. There are beloved characters like Jiminy Cricket and Geppeto as well as horrible villains such as Stromboli and the particularly terrifying and evil Coachman. It is generally family friendly and for all ages but as a warning to parents with small children it should be noted there are children smoking and drinking alcohol in scenes. Additionally there is a scene of animals being mistreated by a villain, particularly disturbing as the animals are actually children who have been transformed. I wo...

Super Mario Bros Video Game Review

The original Super Mario Bros game for the Nintendo Entertainment System was a monumental achievement in video game history and its influence can't be understated. It revolutionized gaming especially in the platformer genre and likely singlehandedly saved the video game industry in the west.          Largely caused by the flood of subpar games released on Atari due to lack of quality control,  most notably the disastrous ET game, the video game industry especially in North America was in a huge slump that started in 1983.          But one heroic mustachioed Italian plumber brought that slump to an end in 1986 with his landmark game, Super Mario Bros. The game was bundled with the NES and was a huge system seller as it lead to the sell of millions of Nintendo consoles during the 1980s and early 1990s.        Besides its considerable historic accomplishment, Super Mario Bros is one fun game wit...

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Case 1 Review

Phoenix Wright Episode 1 First Turnabout is the aptly named first case of the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney game, which is itself the first game in the Ace Attorney Trilogy. The opening case is a short and fun tutorial of how the game works. You win the game by pointing out contradictions in what people say with evidence. There are also parts in later cases where you have to find evidence and talk to people. The characters introduced, including titular character Phoenix Wright and his impressively spiky hair that might rival Final Fantasy's Clouds hairdo, are fun and colorful. However the case is very short so you get to know them a lot better in later cases. The game serves as a good way to introduce players to the game and is very easy. I would give it 8 out of 10. Oh and as far as family appropriateness, the games are fun for teens and older but might be too violent for children as blood is shown but it is cartoony and not too graphic. The cases in t...

Super Mario Bros Review

Super Mario Bros., the animated film, not to be confused with the live action film from the 90s, is a visually stunning modern animated masterpiece with a fun and entertaining soundtrack, beloved characters, and funny jokes, and plenty of action, but perhaps the many game jokes and references might not resonate with viewers who aren't familiar with the source material. I would give it a 9.5 out of 10.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Review

Disney's original animated film Snow White is a stunning masterpiece, whimsical and fun, but with its share of darker moments. It is a timeless classic that is as enjoyable today as it was in 1937 when it first released in theaters. The dwarves are fun and funny and oozing with music and charm. Snow White is charming, sweet, and wholesome. It is movie for all ages young and old. I would give it 10 out of 10.
