Disney's Alladdin Review

Disney's Alladdin is truly a fantastic film and almost tied with Beauty and the Beast as my absolute favorite film so far.      It is animated film that is rich and varied in its themes of adventure,  romance, and comedy yet it all fits together perfectly within its fairly short an hour and a half of runtime.  Its a spectacle of sights and sounds with gorgeous visuals and soundtrack yet it also has great emotional depth that is quite heartwarming,  especially with its awesome cast of characters.      In my opinion, Alladdin  has the best and funniest side characters in all of Disney's films and this might even be true before considering the Genie. But with Genie, portrayed by Robin Willoams, it takes it up to a whole new level with a character who is hilarious and outrageously fun with his constant fourth-wall breaks, celebrity impersonations, and other zany antics. Yet he does this in a way that works somehow seamles...

Disney's Beauty and the Beast review

Disney's Beauty and the Beast is one of the best films of all time and is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, standing above other Disney films, not because they are bad as most of them have been great and quite a few masterpieces on their own right. But none in my opinion reaches the level of splendor and magic that sheer wonder than Beauty and the Beast does.     Visually it stuns with its gorgeous representation of the French countryside and its awe-inspiring depiction of the Beast's enchanted castle.     It's music is on par with the best Broadway musicals.      The ballroom scene is iconic and its use of early cgi looks simply splendid while the song 'Beauty and the Beast' plays alongside it sung by Angela Lansbury the actor who plays Miss Potts.       Belle is the best Disney princess so far in my opinion as she is not only beautiful but sweet and charming while also being confident and intelligent.  ...

Disney's Rescuers Down Under Review

Disney's Rescuers Down Under is an absolute breathtaking masterpiece in terms of visuals and the story is quite good but I prefer the story of the first the Rescuers film better. I also miss the inclusion of songs in this one but overall that's a minor complaint.      The natural beauty of Australia comes alive before the viewer's eyes and the relationship between Cody and the golden eagle is quite heartwarming even though there could have been more screen time focused on it.     Speaking of charming and heartwarming relationships that could have had a lot more screen time to develop, Bernard and Bianca are as endearing as before yet much less time is focused on them especially as they share screen time with Jake, an Australian mouse phones charming enough yet somehow feels like an unnecessary edition to me.      I have to mention John Candy's performance as the albatross Wilbur as it's hilarious and charming, a definite highli...

Disney's Little Mermaid Review

Disney's Little Mermaid is timeless flawless masterpiece,  a luxuriant feast of animation and music for the eyes and ears.      The vibrant and colorful characters and rich deep backgrounds awe and both the soundtrack and songs are probably the best of any Disney film so far, even though the excellent Jungle Book might also be in the running for that achievement.       The characters are top-notch charming and likable, engaging and funny,  especially Princess Ariel who is frankly adorable and the lively crab Sebastian is hilarious. Other characters are great too, as Flounder is extremely lovable and Scuttle is as funny as Sebastian.      The villain Ursula is one of the very best villains so far, up there with Captain Hook and Cruella De Vil. And her song 'Poor Unfortunate Souls ' is an amazing villain song and perfectly encapsulates her dishonesty and cruelty as she takes advantage of others to pursue her ...

Disney's Oliver and Company review

Oliver and Company immediately caught my attention with soulful music and gritty detailed backgrounds of late 1980s New York City. And it held my attention throughout with a heartwarming story and characters despite a rather lackluster and bland villain.       Also, this film is hilarious and might be one of the funniest ones I reviewed so far and this is especially do to two particularly amusing characters: Tito the Chihuahua,  and Georgette the Poodle. They are great and if not outright chuckles they got a smile from ne in basically every scene featuring them.      The other characters, especially Oliver, Dodger, Fagin,  and Jennifer are great and memorable and Jennifer and Oliver's relationship as owner and pet is very heartwarming.      Sykes, the villain,  is definitely ruthless and intimidating but for a Disney villain I found him quite dull. He was a straightforward gangster, terrifying, but not havi...

Disney's The Great Mouse Detective

The Great Mouse Detective is a quirky and charming film centered around a Sherlock Holmes-like Mouse named Basil of Baker Street and his arch-nemesis Professor Ratigan.      As a whole, the characters are great. Basil's eccentricity compliments his assistant Dawson's chivalrous and gentlemanly demeanor, the little mouse girl Olivia is  adorable,  and Fidget the peg-legged bat is quite funny.      But it's the villain Professor Ratigan,  voiced by Vincent Price, who steals the show. He is truly a top-tier Disney Villain as he combines a dry wit that is quite amusing with a truly menacing and diabolical nature.      The visuals range from average to very good for the most part, in my opinion.  I found myself liking the innovative look of Black Cauldron better but Great Mouse Detective is well-animated with great character design and a scene during the finale involving a clock-tower is stunning and really ...

Disney's Black Cauldron

Disney's Black Cauldron might not be one of the best Disney movies but it is, in my opinion, a very good animated fantasy film.       It's one of the most intense and excited animated Disney film and the animation is stunning with dark detailed background that suits the mood of the film. It's also has some very innovative and cool animation techniques that I find very striking.      The villain, the Horned King, is one of the most intimidating and evil in Disney's repertoire of bad guys.      The story is also very good and unique for Disney with themes of redemption and sacrifice.      I have never read the book series Chronicles of Prydain but I imagine the Disney film pales in comparison to the original story however. As a pg-rated Disney film it has likely been too watered down to carry the impact of its mature themes.     But regardless its a very unique story for a Disney film and I think they did ...

Disney's Rescuers review

Disney's Rescuers in my opinion is an extremely underrated Disney classic that tells a dark story of child abduction and exploitation with great sensitivity and care and balances the maturity of the dark plot with loads of charm and humor from Bernard and Bianca as well as other amusing animal characters.       The songs are great even though, they aren't that many of them. The animation for the most part is great with my only major complaint is sometimes characters can be a bit too scratchy around the edges like other animated Disney films of this era. Yet I don't think i noticed this problem as much in Rescuers as I did early films. Also some might compain that once the scene shifts to the swamp where a majority of Rescuers take place the backgrounds became very drab and gloomy with muted colors.  However I feel that this matches the atmosphere of the environment and darker mood perfectly.       The characters are great espe...

Disney's Fox and the Hound

Fox and the Hound is a emotional and heartbreaking story of a heartwarming friendship between a dog named Copper and a Fox named Todd that is destroyed by the social environments they both live in as both characters go their own way.      I love the rustic look of this movie and it suits it very well.     The songs are nice.      The characters are great and even the sort of villain Amos Slade isn't evil but is a nuanced portrayal of a rough and tumble hunter and he especially is shown to love his hounds.         Todd and Copper are super adorable as kids and maintain their endearing and likable personalities as adults even as they sadly drift apart despite being best friends as children.      Overall this is a very family friendly film even though it is pretty sad at moments which might be too much for some sensitive children.  Also the bear towards the end of the movie might be sc...

Disney's The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

An utterly timeless children's animated film. Its one of the sweetest and most endearing of animated films ever made in my opinion,  as well as a joyful celebration of the innocence of childhood and the wonders of the imagination.        Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tiger and the others are absolutely loveable characters and their voice actors perfectly captured the nature of the characters,  bringing them fully alive.      The songs are great. I particularly enjoyed the Heffalumps and Woozels song. It's similar to the bizarre Pink Elephants song from Dumbo but much less frightening. It's a creative and fun song with lovely and cool animations accompanying it.      And the fourth wall breaks are amusing as the characters interact with the pages of the book and speak with the narrator.        Overall,  this might be the most family-friendly film of all time.       I love t...

Disney's Robin Hood review

Disney's Robin Hood is an amazing film and a near-masterpiece in my opinion brought down a bit by some flaws in animation that I will get into later.     It's funny and exciting,  a delightful romp, clever and varied with a bit of everything,  including romance and sad moments.     The villains are great! Prince John and Sir Hiss are quite funny while the Sherrif of Nottingham is cruel and malicious as well as greedy.     The songs are great and range from upbeat to sad and mournful.     As I briefly mentioned before, the main flaws in this movie involve some of the animation.    For the most part this movie looks great with fluid and vivid animation and detailed backgrounds but for one thing, it inherits a similar problem from Aristocats as sometimes the characters look scratchy around the edges. Even more distracting and significant a flaw is the reuse of animation from early films in one particular scene....

Disney's Aristocats review

Disney's Aristocats is pure magic, charming and funny,  and in my opinion is quite underrated.       It's funny and lighthearted with memorable characters and I find Duchess and Thomas O'Malley are especially great and their romance works quite well, similar to how good the love story in Lady and the Tramp worked.     Most of the animation was very good and of a style similar to 101 Dalmatians even though I don't think it reaches the height of quality that particular masterpiece does. However I thought some of the backgrounds look lackluster and some viewers might be distracted by the scratchy look around the edges on the characters.        The music is great but especially 'Everybody Wants to Be a Cat' which is very jazzy and pure fun.       The weakest point of the film in my opinion is the villain Edgar.  His bumbling nature is amusing but he is not very intimidating or interesting compared...

Disney's Jungle Book Review

Disney's Jungle Book is a captivating and magical film filled with astounding visuals and top-notch soundtrack. Seriously the Jungle backgrounds are lush and beautiful and the music, which ranges from slow, haunting,  and mysterious to upbeat and jazzy. The songs "Bare Necessities" and "I Want to Be Like You" are extremely catchy,  delightful,  and memorable.      Besides the amazing sights and sounds, the characters and story are among the best Disney offered so far. Baloo is lovable,  Baghera is wise, and the elephants are particularly enjoyable and hilarious.  It's truly a hoot when Colonel Hathi and the other elephants are on screen they are so funny and charming.  And Shere Khan is very intimidating and a pure menace, another great villain.   Overall,  Jungle Book is very family friendly. Perhaps some small children might be frightened a bit as there is some non-graphic violence.      Jungle ...
